MPPT is the Maximum power point tracking algorithm which detects the maximum power that is available at any photovoltaic (PV) module. An MPPT is actually a DC to DC converter which optimizes the match between the solar array and battery bank.
Main Features of MPPT controller
- MPPT can be employed in all applications where the input (power) source is PV module. It automatically plots the V-I (voltage-current) relations and displays it.
- It detects the optimal operating conditions and optimizes the system to operate at the maximum power point
- Some models of MPPT can be used with other renewable energy sources including wind turbines.
PWM Controller, on the other hand, can be thought of as a switch which connects a solar array to the battery.
In this video Greatscott discusses the efficiency of both these controllers. After watching this video you’ll be able to decide which one is good for you.
